a very special thanks to Karin & her family for giving us a very swedish experience. it was sooooo "gezellig" - a dutch word that is translated in many different ways (cozy, homy, friendly, etc.) yet the 'feeling' is not the same.

and to vale, share the recipe of that milky dessert, pleeease. last but not least, we MUST make piñata again some other time!!!

anyway... here are some pictures ;) enjoy!

Recipe - Snoddas

Hi gals!

Robin asked for the recipe on the cookies I made to the pot-lock, so I thought you maybe wanted it as well ;)

Snoddas (some people call them Kärleksmums)

150 gram butter (smör or margarin)

2 eggs

3 dl sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla powder (vaniljsocker or vanillin socker)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder (kakao)

4,5 dl flour

2 teaspoons of bakingpowder (bakpulver)

1,5 dl milk

The "glazing"(on top..):

75 gram butter

1-2 tablespoons cold coffee

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

2 teaspoons vanilla powder

3,5 dl icing sugar (really white, looks a bit like flour)

coconutflakes

Do like this:

Prepare the baking-tin (30 cm x 40 cm)by greasing it with butter (hope you get what I mean here, you have to do this so that the cake won't get stuck in the baking-tin...)Melt the butter. Mix eggs and sugar for a while, it should get to be a bit white and fluffy. Add the dry ingredients and the milk and the butter. Stir the mix well. Pour the mix into the big baking-tin. Bake in the oven for 15 min, place it in the bottom of the oven.

When the cake is finished, leave it to cool and start doing the glazing. Melt the butter and add the other ingredients while you stir it. It usually looks a bit funny in the beginning, but as soon as you add the coffee it looks fine ;) (don't know why, but that always happens to me...)

When the cake is cold put the glazing on top and when you are finished with that, add the coconutflakes on top of the cake! Cut it into smaller pieces.

Bon Weekend, Aussi!

I haven't come up with any good recipes lately. Yesterday I tried to make a coconut pie but I don't like the result :(

But anyway the coconut gives me inspirations for making various Javanese foods! Look forward to trying it ;) Those pics above are things I'd like to make!

Happy reading this weekend or good luck if any of you start with home exam already!

Bisous,
N.

(PS: I'm in French mood after watching Ratatouille 3x this week, hahaha...)

Sushi Lunch

Konnichiwa! (Hello in Japanese)
On last Thursday, some of us had sushi lunch at Eriksburg for good change in our exam period.

As a Japanese sushi lover, I really like the sushi in Yukiko-Sushi. It's fantastic!

I've never thought I would feel great this much to get food of my mother country.
I'd thought that I would spend my whole life just with tacos when I was in high school but... I'm big enough to know we need change! haha.
BTW, of course I still love tacos :-D

Those were what we had for lunch! Plus miso soup.
Yum! Oishii!!!, Japanese girl said.

Fika, Kastengel, & Home Exam

Hey my beautiful people…

It was great to have the friday's fika! Look forward to having dinner with y'all again after we're done with the home exam & also with the rest of our class ;) Anyway... here's the recipe for kastengel.

Dutch: kaas (cheese) + stengel (stem)

Indonesian: kastengel – we, Indonesians, love to shorten words. We can’t be bothered to pronounce long vowels!

Ingredients:

250 g butter

2 egg yolks

300 g all-purpose flour

75 g grated cheese (Gouda or Edam are the most used)

A pinch of salt

Garnish:

1 egg yolk

Grated cheese

Directions:

Beat butter, egg yolks, and salt.

Gradually add cheese and flour, stir well.

Bit by bit, roll the dough about the size of your index finger, cut the tapered tips, and then cut it into half (they should look rectangle-ish by now).

*PS: Extra flour can be added if the dough is not stiff enough to roll, trust your instinct ;) It’s easier to roll the dough when you cover your hands with flour

Place on cookie sheet covered with baking paper.

Garnish them, one by one, with egg yolk – using brush – then top each with a bit of grated cheese.

Preheat oven to 175 degrees C.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until they look golden.

When you remove the cookies from the oven, they are usually still slightly soft. Allow them to cool until the texture is firm.

Put them in a box & “selamat makan”!

Plus… I found some other original Indonesian tongue twisters:

Kuku kaki kakakku kaku-kaku kena paku, kak: My brother/sister’s toenails are stiff because he/she stepped on pins, bro/sis

Satu sate tujuh tusuk: One satay seven skewers – Repeat them rapidly!

Semoga sukses, veel succes, good luck with your home exam!!!
